Purpose to Please God (March 23, 2023)
“And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we
keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.” (1 John 3:22)
It boggles the mind, but the Almighty God of the
universe knows and cares about every detail of our lives as insignificant as
they may seem to us in the grand scheme. The LORD has uniquely
created each of
us with a purpose to serve and He gives believers the divinely-supplied
resources to fulfill His perfect plan for our lives. To discover and fulfill
this unique purpose of our creation is life’s greatest pursuit. As we seek to
serve our individual calling, remember that God made us to serve a higher
purpose -- to honor and glory Him by the way we live our lives every day.
“Whatever
you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians
10:31)
The Apostle Paul’s directive to the church at Corinth
is the so-called “acid test” of living as children of God and members of the
body of Christ. The ultimate purpose of our being is to honor God and to exalt
Him above the people, pursuits, possessions, and pleasures of this world as
much as we may cherish them. The LORD deserves
to be our highest priority and our first love. As His ambassadors, we must
guard our thoughts, and before we speak or act, especially if there is any
question in our minds, we should ask ourselves if it will magnify God’s glory.
“For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify
God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (1
Corinthians 6:20)
Our purpose is to please God and allow His glory to
shine through us. We honor God through obedience based on steadfast trust in
Him to guide our lives. Obedience reflects not only our faith in Jesus Christ
but is the highest expression of our love for Him. To love God supremely and
love others as ourselves are His greatest commandments. We also glorify God
through humble works of service that benefit others. In all that we do, with
praise and thanksgiving, let’s purpose to please God, not ourselves, and to give
Him the glory that He alone deserves!
“I am the Lord, that is My name; and My glory I will not give to another,
nor My praise to carved images.” (Isaiah
42:8)
