 This Is the Day! (June 15, 2023)

“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)

This new day is a priceless gift of God that He expects us to live fully and use wisely to make a positive difference in our spheres of influence in the world. This is the day of opportunities for followers of Jesus Christ to do God’s will and serve His unique purpose for each of our lives.

This is the day of thanksgiving! “I will praise You, for You have answered me, and have become my salvation.” (Psalm 118: 21) Today is the day to be grateful for the bounty of God’s blessings, the greatest of which is His gracious gift of eternal life through faith in Christ.

This is the day of service! “Therefore…be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 15:58) Today is the day to be obedient to God by giving of ourselves in humble, selfless service to other people.

This is the day of love! “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” (Luke 10:27) Today is the day to share God’s love for He is love and we were created in His image.

This is the day of joy! “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24) Today is the day to glorify God with joyful hearts filled with praise and gratitude and renewed minds motivated by love and a desire to proclaim the good news of the gospel.

 This is the day of hope! “But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved).” (Ephesians 2:4-5)

  Not My Will… ( March 29, 2023) “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” Before His unjustified arrest and brutal crucifixion, Jesus—knowing the extreme suffering that He was about to endure for mankind’s salvation—retreated to the Mount of Olives to take His anguish to His Father in heaven through prayer. While His disciples slumbered nearby in the Garden of Gethsemane, our L ORD, showing His humanity, sweat great drops of blood as He pleaded with the Father to make another way if possible. In absolute obedience, however, Christ surrendered His will to that of the heavenly Father and willingly completed the mission for which the Son of God had been sent to earth—to enter humanity as the sinless suffering servant required for the redemption of our sins.  “But rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.” ...

  What a Waste! ( April 17, 2023) “ Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. ” (1 Peter 5:6-7) In terms of personality types, many of us could be categorized as worriers. Looking back over my life and considering the frequency with which I have engaged in the futility of worry without any benefit, I have to think, “What a waste!” Worry—defined as a state of anxiety or uncertainty over actual or potential problems—is worthless! We all have many legitimate personal concerns that prompt us to worry about our loved ones, our health, our jobs, our finances, our personal safety (especially in today’s lawless society), and countless other circumstances.
