 God Provides (September 20, 2023)

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)

Commanding unlimited resources that are readily at His disposal, Almighty God is the Great Provider! Everyone who trusts in the LORD and seeks to yield control of their lives to Him can be certain that He will faithfully provide for them. When we obey Him, God assumes full responsibility for our temporal as well as our eternal needs. In addition to showering us with earthly blessings on a daily basis, our gracious, loving heavenly Father has provided for our greatest need—a Savior!

Foreshadowing God’s gift of His beloved and only begotten Son Jesus Christ as the supreme sacrifice for the sins of mankind, Abraham, the father of Israel, passed the ultimate test of faith by demonstrating a willingness to obey God’s command to sacrifice his son Isaac. Instead, God provided a sacrificial ram and spared Isaac’s life on Mount Moriah, rising above what became Jerusalem. “And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.” (Genesis 22:14)

Some 2,000 years later, this gracious heavenly Father furnished the Lamb of God necessary for the atonement and forgiveness of our sins when He sent Christ to die on a cross planted on this same mountain peak. This unchanging God never stops providing for those who recognize His faithfulness and earnestly depend upon Him. As recipients of God’s grace through faith in Christ, we can rest assured that God will supply exactly what we need according to His sovereign will and perfect timing, including the greatest blessing imaginable, the timeless gift of eternal life.

“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:17)

  Not My Will… ( March 29, 2023) “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” Before His unjustified arrest and brutal crucifixion, Jesus—knowing the extreme suffering that He was about to endure for mankind’s salvation—retreated to the Mount of Olives to take His anguish to His Father in heaven through prayer. While His disciples slumbered nearby in the Garden of Gethsemane, our L ORD, showing His humanity, sweat great drops of blood as He pleaded with the Father to make another way if possible.   What a Waste! ( April 17, 2023) “ Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. ” (1 Peter 5:6-7) In terms of personality types, many of us could be categorized as worriers. Looking back over my life and considering the frequency with which I have engaged in the futility of worry without any benefit, I have to think, “What a waste!” Worry—defined as a state of anxiety or uncertainty over actual or potential problems—is worthless!
