Be Imitators of Christ (June 7, 2024)
“Let this mind be in you which was also in
Christ Jesus…” (Philippians 2:5).
As
parents, teachers, and daycare providers can readily attest, children are
natural imitators! What they see and hear, kids are likely to try to duplicate
in their speech and behavior. Children are watching us, and we all need to be
careful to set good examples for them to follow. An anonymous author wrote: "Children are great imitators. So give
them something great to imitate." As Christians, we too should be great
imitators, seeking daily to copy the lifestyle of the greatest role model who
ever lived, Jesus Christ, thus setting a godly example for the world!
By
reading and meditating on God’s Word and asking Jesus to reveal Himself to us
personally, we clearly see who Jesus is—the Son of God and the Savior of
mankind—and who we are by faith in Him—children and heirs of God destined to
live forever with our LORD in heaven and to share His glory and eternal riches.
Manifesting for our imitation the most admirable qualities possible, Christ will
forever be the ultimate example of boundless love, selfless humility, abiding
grace, and faithful service to mankind.
Like little
children, Christians must be imitators, seeking to mirror the beautiful character
of Christ, not the ugly wickedness of the world! We should consider how Jesus would
handle particular situations as the changing circumstances of our daily lives
unfold, and do our best to respond accordingly. As believers seeking to mimic Christ,
we must yield to the transforming power of the indwelling Holy Spirit to
gradually conform us to the likeness of our loving Savior. By surrendering our
hearts to God, we allow Jesus to reveal Himself to the world through us.
