For Such a Time as This (June 28, 2024)
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the
mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy,
acceptable to God, which is
your reasonable service.” (Romans 12:1)
Scripture instructs that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14) by an awe-inspiring God of glory. Our
Creator has designed each of us uniquely to serve a special purpose. Have you
ever considered that God has placed you in the time, circumstances, and place
you’re in to accomplish a particular task that He is calling you to do? God
equips those He calls to act according to His will. It’s not about our capability;
it’s about our availability! When we submit ourselves for service, the LORD can use
ordinary people like you and me to accomplish extraordinary things or whatever
He wills. But we must be willing to respond in faithful obedience to God’s call
to action and His appointment of us, to use a famous biblical phrase, “for
such a time as this.” (Esther 4:14) God has a reason for placing us in
certain positions and situations, and we must act faithfully and courageously
to fulfill His purpose.
Consider the life of Esther, the Jewish maiden who became
the queen of Persia and risked her life to save her people from a sinister plot
to annihilate the Jews. In urging Queen Esther to take action at the risk of
her own life, her first cousin Mordecai suggested that she had been placed by
God for a reason, to serve a higher purpose, asking her the question: “Who
knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” We
may not be called to save a nation from destruction, but, like Esther, God
wants to use us mightily to fulfill His divine purposes. We live in a time of extreme
hardship, conflict, and strife that is ripe for sharing Christ’s love wherever
we have been placed and in whatever circumstances we face. We must step out in
faith, tap into the power of God’s indwelling Spirit, and answer His call to
serve, allowing God to use us “for such a time as this.”
“But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With
men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.””
(Matthew 19:26)
