Choose You This Day Whom You Will Serve… (February 28, 2023)
“Enter
by the narrow gate; for wide is the
gate and broad is the
way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find
it.” (Matthew 7:13-14)
Life can be seen as a series of choices that we must make, some relatively
insignificant and inconsequential and others that monumentally will determine
our earthly legacy and our eternal destiny. Living in a world befallen with sin
and its lethal consequence, our physical bodies will eventually submit to the inevitable
reality of death and crumble into dust, but our souls are immortal and
imminently bound to spend eternity in one of two places, the paradise of heaven
or perdition of hell, depending upon whether or not we have a relationship with
Jesus Christ!
You may wisely choose to believe it or foolishly reject its absolute, everlasting
truth, but the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, infallible Word of God given to
guide our worldly sojourn to salvation and everlasting life, the joyful result
of God’s abiding grace. The Holy Scriptures make undeniably clear the fact that
ultimately we must opt to travel one of two roads -- the narrow, sparsely-traveled
pathway that winds through the pearly gates into God’s heavenly presence, or
the wide, heavily-trod course that leads to the lake of fire where Satan will
be waiting.
We live in the confines of time and cannot comprehend the spiritual
dimension of eternity where we will face forever, eternally secure with the LORD, or apart always from His
grace. This life is just a passing vapor, but life after physical death is
everlasting. God does not send anyone to hell; they choose that horrible,
irreversible destination by rejecting His plan of for our salvation exclusively
through faith in Christ, His Son. We must prepare ourselves and others for
eternity now by accepting Jesus’ invitation (Matthew 5:24) to “follow
me” along the highway to heaven!
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)
