Jesus Is Our Only Security (June 6, 2023)
Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
Sadly, we live in a ruthlessly lawless society where mass shootings and total disregard for the sanctity of precious human life are becoming virtually daily occurrences and manmade and natural disasters are devastating humanity with alarming frequency. This chaotic, sin-scarred world has become a dangerous place in which to live and pursue happiness. Schools, college campuses, churches, synagogues, businesses, government buildings, and other public and private places—once thought to be sanctuaries of relative safety—are now much too often the tragic settings of once-unimaginable violence and senseless slaughter. Many people around the world, especially persecuted Christians, live in constant fear for their lives and those of their children, families, friends, and communities.
We do indeed inhabit an insecure world where seemingly no place is exempt from the shocking madness and mayhem that we see happening so rampantly today, especially in our increasingly irreverent nation. As Christians, however, it’s comforting to know that, surrounded by earthly turmoil and strife, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…” (Psalm 46:1-2). No matter what precarious circumstances we may face in a fallen world, through faith in Jesus Christ, we can all have the assurance of salvation and everlasting life in a heavenly home where there’ll be no more death, destruction, and discord, and peace will prevail forever! Having overcome the world, Christ is our only hope for eternal security!
Jesus, the Son of God and
Good Shepherd, assured His followers, “My sheep
hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I
give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone
snatch them out of My hand. My
Father, who has
given them to Me, is
greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.” (John
10:27-29)
