Always Abounding (September 19, 2023)

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 15:58)

Christians are called to follow the example of love and kindness shown to the needy and helpless by Jesus Christ during His earthly ministry. Jesus took time to comfort, console, and cure many among the multitudes who were drawn to Him. Christ was especially responsive to the needs of those unfortunate individuals who were diseased, demon-possessed, and drowning in the sea of sin. Today, Jesus still offers to bear our burdens and the heavy weight of our transgressions as we walk in trusting obedience to Him.

Looking to Jesus as the ultimate role model, we should seek daily to follow in His footsteps. As we are able and in God’s power, we must carry on His work, serving others with compassion and addressing real human needs that prevail in these troublesome, tumultuous times. It is our great privilege and responsibility as believers to show the love and shine the light of Christ in our communities and wherever we go, always abounding—being plentiful and abundant—in our labors for the LORD.

Unlike the passing things of this world, our selfless acts of kindness and generosity, motivated by a genuine love for God and our neighbors rather than selfishness and pride, carry great eternal value. Like Jesus, let’s be about our heavenly Father’s business, always abounding in the work He has called us to do. As Christ’s faithful earthly servants, we will be richly blessed so that we can share God’s bounty with others! By serving humanity, we serve God, doing the best work of life, and the most rewarding, here and hereafter!

And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:23-24)
