The Privilege and Power of Prayer (May 29, 2024)

“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” (Jeremiah 33:3)

One of the greatest privileges that we have as Christians is the opportunity to take our cares and concerns to the masterful Creator and sovereign God of the universe in prayer. We don’t need an appointment or a reservation; at any moment of our choosing, God invites us to come to His throne of grace to lay down our burdens and lift up our prayers to Him. God is readily accessible to believers, but consumed by the busyness and distractions of life, we often neglect to utilize the effective communication tool and the powerful weapon of prayer until we desperately need divine favor or face a personal crisis. Christians grow spiritually and develop an intimate personal relationship with the LORD by taking time daily for prayer, communion, and fellowship with Him and allowing God to speak to us through His Word and His indwelling Holy Spirit!

“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” (James 5:16)

When Christians humbly approach our heavenly Father with trusting expectancy, God has promised to not only hear our pleas but to answer, according to His own perfect timing, those prayers of supplication that conform to His will and purpose. Our petitions should not be solely about what we want God to do for us. We should also come to the LORD in prayer to worship Him, to confess our sins and ask for forgiveness, to praise and thank Him for His blessings, and to make intercession for others. God doesn’t expect flowery-worded, eloquently-spoken prayers, He just wants us to open up to Him and speak from a grateful heart as we would talk to a trusted friend! The best friend we will ever have, the LORD Jesus Christ invites us to prayerfully bring our burdens to Him and rest in the peace of His presence, now and eternally!

How may I pray for you today?
