A Lesson in Loyalty (November 20, 2025)

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)

One admirable quality that is increasingly disappearing from human relationships of the 21st century is loyalty, faithfulness to each other and to God. In today’s faithless culture, people tend to shun long-term commitments, especially in marriage and the family. In a materialistic, self-centered, and immoral world, we need to be careful where our loyalties and allegiances lie. As Christians who’ve been commanded to be witnesses of God’s boundless love and saving grace, we must make sure our lives speak of our loyalty and faithfulness to Christ despite Satan’s ceaseless attempts to persuade us to go the way of the world.

A biblical lesson in loyalty is the story of Ruth, the Moabite daughter-in-law of the Jewish woman Naomi. Because of famine in Naomi’s Israeli homeland, they were living in Moab, a pagan land, when both of their husbands died. Returning home to Bethlehem, Naomi encouraged Ruth to stay in Moab and find another husband. However, Ruth steadfastly vowed to follow Naomi and to be parted from her only by death. Ruth famously declared, For wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God, my God.” (Ruth 1:16)

Rewarded by a faithful God for her loyalty, Ruth married prominent Hebrew landowner Boaz, becoming the great grandmother of David and a Gentile in the lineage of Jesus Christ, our loving Savior. It may not be quite that dramatic, but God has a purpose He uniquely created each of us to fulfill too. When we surrender our hearts to Him in trusting obedience, seeking to be His faithful servants, God can use us mightily to bless others and draw them to Christ for salvation. May our lives be a lesson in love and loyalty to our LORD and one another! Earthly and eternal rewards await faithful followers of Jesus!

A faithful man shall abound with blessings.” (Proverbs 28:20)
