A Living Sermon (January 6, 2026)
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.” (Matthew 5:14-15)
As Christians, we have the greatest privilege imaginable—knowing and engaging in an intimate personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the Creator of the universe and the Savior of mankind. This blessing of a lifetime does not come without great responsibility, however. We have been commanded by our LORD Himself to spread the gospel and evangelize to the world around us the good news that salvation and everlasting life are offered to everyone who chooses to receive God’s grace through faith in Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross as payment of their sin debt in full. Every believer who personally experiences the cleansing power of Christ’s shed blood and thus shares our resurrected LORD’s triumph over spiritual death has a powerful and undeniable testimony that we have been called to share in an effort to lead unbelievers to faith in Christ!
“Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord…” (Romans 12:10-11).
Not only have we been directed to tell others about the many ways in which we have been richly blessed because Christ lives in and works through us but we have been empowered by the Holy Spirit to live Christian lifestyles that reflect God’s presence in our yielded hearts. Everyone who has accepted Jesus as their personal Savior has the awesome responsibility to minister as earthly witnesses, servants, and ambassadors of our LORD. We are to spread the truth of God’s Word and share the love of Christ with an unbelieving world by telling others about Jesus and showing them through selfless acts of kindness and compassion that back up our testimonies. Our daily lives are powerful living sermons that speak volumes to a watchful world. Let’s purpose each day to love and serve in such a way that others see Jesus in us even if we speak not a word.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
